Style: Boutique, Notably Sustainable
An intimate luxury resort in Napa Valley and a shining example of sustainable design, earning it the highest honor of LEED Platinum.
Bardessono is the remarkable creation of its owner and developer, Phil Sherbourne. Sherbourne, an early supporter of environmentally-responsible design, had a vision for a small luxury hotel in Napa Valley. It was to be in a rural setting, and it was to have the least possible impact on its immediate surroundings and the larger community.
Named after the family whose lands encompass the hotel, Bardessono reflects the collective efforts of Sherbourne, architect Ron Mitchell, and the Bardesonno family. They took their commitment to sustainability to the highest level, achieving LEED Platinum Certification from the United States Green Building Council. When the hotel opened in 2009, Bardessono was the first hotel in California and the third in the U.S. to receive this extraordinary honor.
It is difficult to achieve a platinum rating under the LEED program; in fact, it is getting more challenging as technology improves and the sustainability bar gets raised. What we think is so wonderful about Bardessono is that it is simply a small luxury resort in a natural setting. As a “green” building, it capitalizes on the materials and resources immediately available: the earth to regulate heating and cooling temperatures, and the sun to generate electricity. Woodwork throughout the hotel is made from reclaimed salvaged timbers from Northern California. The whole look and feel of the hotel has a Zen-like quality, derived from the use of natural materials and aesthetic simplicity.
There are 62 spacious suites, each designed to accommodate in-room spa services. Room amenities include private patio, gas fireplace, steam room (spa/steam suites) and whirlpool tub. A separate spa facility is also available by reservation only. The rooftop swimming pool has undisturbed Napa Valley views.
The Lucy Restaurant and Bar, under the direction of Chef Victor Scargle, provides seasonal menus using the best products from local farms. Once a month, on the first Tuesday, there is a pet-friendly “happy hour” bar for dogs. How great is that!
The California climate and a well-chosen setting in Napa Valley make Bardessono a perfect destination for a relaxing vacation, as well as for weddings, meetings and private dinners.
