Silken Gran Domine Bilbao
Location:
Style: Contemporary
Distinctly contemporary and delightfully Spanish, with up-close-and-personal views of its famous neighbor, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
Modern architecture in Spain knows no bounds. It is free and fearless, both in its new buildings and in its older structures seeking a new image. The Spanish design profession has developed its own expressive style. And we love it.
For the Spanish-based Hotels Silken group, the Gran Domine in Bilbao is considered its flagship hotel. The building was designed by Spanish architect Javier Mariscal and designer Fernando Salas. Together, they created a contemporary marvel in a City dedicated to modern art.
From the outside, the “skin” of the Gran Domine appears to be peeling, while the reflections in these glass panels change with the colors of the day. Once inside the hotel, there is quite another experience. The main lobby, reception, and lounge adjoin a striking curvalinear-shaped atrium (Atrium) that is the heart and soul of the hotel. The Atrium features an abstract, tree-like sculpture, designed by Mariscal. Many guest rooms overlook this soaring light-filled space.
There are 145 rooms, all artistic and as individualistic as the hotel. Many rooms have direct views to the neighboring Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, designed by acclaimed American architect Frank Gehry.
The Restaurant Doma offers the cuisine of Chef Martin Berasategui, who, over the course of his career, has earned 7 Michelin Stars. The restaurant has a “front row seat” to the Guggenheim Museum.
The Splash and Crash Bar, as the name suggests, has a lively, upbeat personality that attracts a cool upscale crowd.
